Mitsubishi Repair: Replacing Side View Mirror - 2003 Eclipse, manual haynes, mitsubishi eclipse

Question
New problem...  I hit a deer on my way home the other day.  Actually, the deer ran into me (poor thing), but the damage was done.  I now need to replace my side view mirror and casing (driver's side).  No damage to the window or door.  But, the entire part needs to be replaced.  I've searched online to find a diy guide to replacing this part.

Can you a) confirm which part I need?, and b) lead me through replacing that part?

I have a 2003 Eclipse GTS.  It's a powered mirror, and it's not heated (or, at least I don't believe it is).

Thanks!
Sam

Answer
Sam: That is the very reason why I like to hunt deer, they are very hard on cars. The problem I see to your fixing the car yourself, is the mirror comes in black. What color is your car? Surely a car so new has full cover insurance on it, why not let your insurance company handle this. On two of my cars I have coverage that is just for such things, hitting a deer or a deer hitting my car. Other wise you need to look to see how the mirror is held onto the door with. It there screws that you can see, or maybe covers over those screws. If you go up on line to (http://www2.partstrain.com) put in about your car, it is a Mitsubishi, Eclipse, 2003 and I did not know if it was a 4cyl or a 6cyl so I put in a 4cyl. With all that, the part came up as a Driver side mirror, power no heat. part# MT18EL for $62.27. But the mirror comes in black, so if your car is another color, you would have to get someone to paint it to match your car. Then you would need to buy yourself a repair manual, this is not the book that came with the car when you bought it but rather a repair manual. Haynes or Chilton. If you can not find one to buy, then check your library as they carry the manuals. If you can not check the manual out, you could make copies. It would explain how to replace the mirror. If you do not want to buy a new mirror, you could go to a junk yard to find one. Sometimes going that route, you can find one to match the color of your car.Oh you can buy those repair manuals at any parts store for around $20.00. I do hope this helps and good luck!
