Mitsubishi Repair: mitsubishi eclipse spyder, mitsubishi eclipse, steering wheel

Question
i have a mitsubishi eclipse spyder 1999 today in the morning i tried to start it but it gave me this really loud squeeky noise there was also the battery light and the break light on i checked it out and open the hood and then i saw 2 bands which one was stuck on the side of where it should of been, when i try to turn it on it turns on but if i try to put it in reverse the steering wheel gets really hard i wonder if i should try and drive it to a mechanic but im scared that it'll turn off on the way to the mechanic.

Answer
Mayra: I think you have broken your power steering belt and maybe the one that runs your alternator because you said your battery light is on. The alternator is what powers your battery and so keeping it charged so your car can go down the road. Without power steering the car will handle really hard to make turns and the such. I think I would have it pulled to your mechanic. If the alternator is not charging, you will only be able to go as far as your battery has charged left in it. And that might not be so far. So to be on the safe side of things, get your car pulled to the mechanic and let him check it over. Hope this helps and good luck!
