Mitsubishi Repair: 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse: Service Engine Soon, differential pressure sensor, powertrain control module

Question
I checked the probable causes at eautorepair.com ($9.99)
It lists following probable causes-

1. MDP Sensor failed
2. Open or short in MDP Sensor circuit OR
  2b.Loose connector
3. Engine Control Module/Powertrain Control Module Failed

How much should each of these cost ?

I am looking to sell the car - so can't put a tape on the light :) !

-----Question-----
Hi Linda,

My car has service engine soon light on. It is a 2000 Mitsubishi eclipse. I hooked up an OBDII meter (got one from Autozone) and it says "Manufacture Control - Auxillary Emission Controls".

When I looked this up on the web - this corresponds too :

"manifold Differential Pressure Sensor circuit"

What could be wrong  - and more importantly how much should I expect to pay a mechanic for different problems this could be related to?

I checked the gas cap - it is tight (sometimes that causes
service engine soon) light.

Abhishek: Look if only the check engine light is on, but the car is running ok. Then don't worry about it, I have a car that the light is on but we just drive it that way. I did go up and look up that part on the internet it costs $185.81 then you would have the cost of labor. I wish I could help you more with that idea but I don't work on such new cars has your's. But you should also see if there is a recall on this car for this problem. There is this site... http://www.mitsubishisucks.com they have all the recalls on your car and it's year. And the list is long so check it all out. I think you should check different shops in your area and see what they say it will cost for the part as well as the labor. Duck tape works wonders for covering up that light for a bit anyway. Hope this helps and good luck!

Answer
Abhishek: Look if you are going to sell the car, I would find a way to unhook that light then. Because the MDP sensor will not cost a lot to fix, it is in the distributor cap. As I said I don't work on such new cars, other than to maybe do a tune up or an oil change. Sensor circuit is a wire off some place. You will just have to take to a shop, or many shops till you find one that works for your labor cost and parts. As they will have to find the short or broken wire. But the ECM is your car's computer that will cost any where from $125.00 up on ebay on for that. Again I am sorry I can not really tell you what all this will cost you, because I live in Iowa and it does not cost a lot to fix these little cars. Unless you go to the dealerships. Wish I could help you more but I got other questions to answer. And a NeverWinter Nights game up on line to play. Good luck!
