My Montero hesitates while excellerating from a stop.  It feels like the timing is off.  It has 40k.  My wife drove it the other day and it stalled twice will driving in a parking lot.  What do you think?

This problem may be remedied by a basic tune-up.  Have your spark plugs and other related ignition components inspected and replaced if necessary.  Have the battery and alternator checked out.  Have the air filter and fuel filter replaced as well.  You may even have a clogged fuel injector or a leaky intake manifold gasket.  But it can't hurt to have the timing checked as well.
