Mitsubishi Repair: Cluth Fluid, discount auto parts, hydraulic clutch

Question
I can't get my car into gear. I recently went to an Advanced Discount Auto Parts, and was told to buy a dot 3 brake fluid.  I bought wearever brake fluid.  Will that work on my hydraulic clutch or just make it worse??

Answer
Anthony: What makes you think your problem is fluid for the clutch. But also you need to be putting in gear oil not brake fluid. My manual talks about lubricants with gear oil under that and then brake fluid is under micellaneous. You need to be careful or you could damage your clutch they are set up to work with the right kind of lubricants, think of the heat that works through that clutch everytime you shift your car. Manual says this about not being able to select gears... faulty transaxle, faulty clutch disc, release lever and bearing not assembled properly, faulty pressure plate, pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts loose. If you have lost fluid in your transmission set up then you need to understand and fix there that fluid is leaking from before trying to add more to it. Other wise the car might get you someplace but loose to much fluid so you will not be able to shift the car to get home. You go back to that parts store and buy yourself a manual for your car. They cost around $20.00 and well worth the money. It would explain things to check and how to fix them.Other wise take the car to a shop and they will find your problem for you. Hope this helps and good luck!
