Mitsubishi Repair: 00 Eclipse hesitation, gas tanks, fuel pump

Question
When cold, my car hestates when I first hit the gas.  It also will shudder like it is about to stall when idling at a light, but doesn't do it in park.  What could it be?

Answer
Karen: You need to have your fuel pump checked. When is the last time you did a tune up on the car? Could be your have a vaccum leak someplace too. It takes three things for a car to go down the road, stark, air and fuel. But also a computer to mix all these things together just right. But you say the car hestates when you first hit the gas. Which makes me think that your fuel pump or maybe even your fuel filter is needing changing. But then it also shudder at idling at a light. A lot of people these days, and hey I am one of them. Trys to get all they can from their gas tanks, so running their cars down to almost "E" or to the light coming up to let you know you better fill up. But that fuel in the tank is what cools the fuel pump so if you do that enough, you with time can cook the fuel pump. You can take the car to a dealership or a shop and they can check the fuel pump to make sure it is putting out enough fuel for your car. Then they should be able to help you find out what is wrong with your car, if not the fuel pump or filter. If a vaccum leak, they can find that too. Hope this helps and good luck!
