Mitsubishi Repair: thermostat, sealant, gasket

Question
what direction does the thermostadt go spring up or down. I screwed up.

Rolf:Hey, we all have our bad days... Do remember though to get all the old gasket and sealant from the housing and the cover with a gasket scraper or a something that will remove it. Then put a thin layer of some kind of sealant to both sides of the new gasket and position it on the housing. Put the new thermostat in the housing, make sure the the spring end is directed into the engine and the air bleed valve faces up. Hope this helps and good luck!
