Mitsubishi Repair: 2001 eclipse wont start, troubleshooting pages, autozone

Question
Linda, I was able to start the car after two days, the radio display still read CODE, I drove the car to Autozone as you suggested, the hook-up the test unit and no codes were displayed, I then drove the car home turned it off and it hasn't started again.  I'm going to have the battery tested, then go back to Autozone and rent the test unit and try it while the car is not running, I also found a procedure to reset the radio disable code, I hope it works.  Any other ideas?  Thanks in advance.

My eclipse was running great, last evening went to start the car and nothing, when you turn the ignition it clicks a few times then nothing, try to jump the car and again nothing.  The radio display on the dash says "CODE".

-----Answer-----
Ed: You need to have your car coded, any AutoZone will do it for free. Because I believe you have a sensor that has gone out, so the computer will not let you start the car till that sensor is fixed. Or else your computer is gone. But then you might want to find a shop, that will code your car for free but then fix it for you and of course charge you for that. I mean you have to have the car pulled someplace anyway, so why not go someplace that will code the car and fix it. Hope this helps and good luck! Also Merry Christmas!

Answer
Ed: Listen let me honest here I don't work on such new cars like your's. One thing I should have told you to do was to go buy yourself a repair manual. Can pick one up at any parts store for around $20.00. It will have a part in the book if you get a Haynes that will have a few troubleshooting pages. Now you do not say if when you try to start the car it will rotate or not. You need to be thankful it is not a sensor or the computer. But the battery is a good place to start, then the cables from the battery to the starter. Can you hear the fuel pump start when you turn the key? How many miles are on the car? I know it is only a 2001 but I have friends that have a 2004 with over 100,000 miles on it. So year is just the year of the car. When is the last time you did a tune up? You could have a short someplace or a wire off of something. Are you an easy driver or do you like to zip around a lot. Cold starts and hard running? How old are is the belt on the car. Could be your timing belt broke; they do, do this from time to time. But again is the car trying to start or is it just dead? So start with the battery first, I did talk to my friend that has that 2004 and he said for the radio to go to code. Could mean your battery or it's cables are bad. The radio looses it's power and so it goes to code. As for you to reset it. A large opps on my part. I am so sorry I had you go have your car coded. But my excuse would be Christmas and getting very busy. Please forgive for that one. Hope this helps and good luck!
