Mitsubishi Repair: Power antenna, power antenna, montero sport

Question
I have a 2002 Montero Sport Limited with a power antenna.
The antenna's motor still works as I can heard winding up
and winding down when a I start and turn off the vehicle.
However, the antenna does not go down, it just stays up. I
assume I'll need to take it in for this... can this be
expensive?

Answer
Roy,
For a Montero that is as new as yours, this problem may still be covered under your original factory warranty.  The best idea is to first verify with your local Mitsubishi dealership if any repairs would be free under your warranty.

Your problem could be that antenna may have some rust in the telescoping sections.  If that happens, your antenna will stick and it will make it difficult to go down.  You can try to gentley push the antenna down by hand.  But if there is too much resistence, don't force it.  Odds are, the antenna may just need to be lubricated and doesn't need replacing.  But if your warranty still covers this, the dealership will most likely just install a new one.
Good luck!
