Mitsubishi Repair: 2001 eclipse Gt tranmission problem, mitsubishi eclipse gt, mitsubishi eclipse

Question
I own a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT (v6 automatic).I was driving along aprox 45 miles per hour and I noticed that it appeared that the transmission shifter shifted into neutral on its own. I then put it back into drive and a moment later I lost all transaxle power, it just appears to stay in neutral. I had to be flatbedded home. A friend of mine had a portable analyzer which detected a failure in the shift solenoid.
What do you think?  What has to be done to change a shift solenoid. Do you have any diagrams, or repair data to walk me through this, so that i can be familiar with the procedure?

Glenn: Got to get yourself a repair manual for your car, you can pick up one these at any parts store for around $20.00. It should not only walk you through this but it has pictures too. :o) I like Haynes as they seem to be more easy to understand. But this might still be over your head and you will need a shop to replace those sensors. But yet, I would still get the manual and read up on it. Your car is new enough that you got to becareful and not set off the air bag. But the book would explain about that too. With your own manual if you get lost, you can check it and be found in no time. Do have a good holiday... hope this helps and good luck!
