Mitsubishi Repair: Check engine light codes, jumper wire, eagle summit

Question
Hi, Linda. It's me again. '95 Eagle Summit Wgn. AWD. Is there a way to read the repair codes without a scanner? Like a jumper wire, turn the key on and count the check engine blinks? How do you zero out the ECM codes?

Answer
Rich: Maybe if you were a good boy, Santa will bring you a voltmeter. With that and a repair manual, because it will tell you what your voltmeter should be reading, you can code your car with that. Ok, don't wait for Santa just go out and buy one yourself. But you will need the manual as it will explain what the readings should be. The only way I know for zero out the ECM codes is to take the neg. cable off the battery and let it sit for 5 minutes, then put the cable back on. The computer should reset it's self and then off you go. :) Never had much luck with the check engine blink idea. But maybe it would work. Maybe I just don't see the right blinks or I see to many. But try the voltmeter. They don't cost to much and you could rewire your house while you are at it. Hope this helps and good luck!
