Mitsubishi Repair: 94 Mits Galant 2.4 DOHC engine, import car repair, mitsubishi gallant

Question
I have both a Chilton's Mitsubishi Gallant/Mirage/Diamante 1990-00 repair manual and the Chilton Import car repair manual1993-1997.  Believe it or not but neither of these has much information on the galant 4G64/L engine (2.4 DOHC).  Part of the problem is this engine was used in the 1994 Galant only. It is possible it may have been used in some other Mitsubishi models but I can't confirm that.

The previous owner had the head pulled for a valve job.  Shop that did the removal said the lower end was bad so the work was stopped before any repairs were completed.  The head is in the trunk with various accessories.  If I am lucky then it is all there. Generally I am not that lucky.  Besides when you try to put together what someone else has disassembled you are generally fighting a losing battle.  Car has it's original 4G64L engine (2.4 DOHC) with original manual trans.  This brings me to the question;
1) Are there engines from other Mitsubishis that could be bolted in to replace the engine and mate up with the manual trans.

2) If none is there a engine/trans combination that could be a drop in replacement?

3) Could a Mits 2.4 SOHC (4G64/G most common Galant engine used from 94-94) and auto trans drop in?  Thanks, jjj

-----Question-----
I just purchased a 94 Mits Galant 2.4 DOHC engine with the (I believe it is a 7 bolt) manual trans.  The previous owner tore the engine apart and said it is toast.  Is there another Mits engine that I could just drop in and bolt up to the trans?  If not is there an trans-motor combination that I could just drop in?  Many thanks, jjj

John:Your engine could be rebuilt. How can you just believe someone who says the engine is toast. Maybe he or she was not so good at engine repair. Get yourself a repair manual for your car, can get one at any parts store for around $20.00. But you could go to any junk yard and get another engine like your's, or one rebuilt or a new one from Mitsubishi too. You will have to check on those. But if I was you, I would have the one you got rebuilt. Hope this helps and good luck!

John: I wish I could be more help to you here. I mostly work on Eclipses. Have you tried a Haynes manual I know just what you want is another manual but I am not really not into Chilton manuals I know most people think they are the best. But I don't see it. I think I would remove all the pieces from the tunk and see what you got. I know what you mean about if all the pieces might be there but most likely not. Because I am such a person this happens to all the time. Still I would check, because every once in a while things do come together. Like every once in a blue moon but this might be your turn to shine. Other wise I guess I would start checking junk yards, you might get lucky and find a car like your's; junked. If the engine would be good, or even in need of a overhaul; well you could put the two engines together. With pieces left over. You play some too, I have a brother that had to rebuild a lot of things but he put a Mustang engine into a MG body. I mean the car will about burn it's wheels off now but what a ride. You could try rebuilding things and hey now put an Eclipse engine into your car. Now that would be a wild ride. You most likely would like to shoot me for that one. Sorry. It has been a long morning and I am getting crazy for the "Thank God it is Friday", thing. I really wonder why you could not put that Mits 2.4 SOHS(4G64/G most common Galant engine used from 94-94) would work. But is this car a auto now or a clutch. Because if it is an auto now you could then drop in another auto. But if it is a clutch that would not work. But then I am sure you know this. I have had people ask, why can not just change my car from auto to clutch or clutch from auto; I mean they build them at the plant like that. But need to stick withwhat ever tramission your car has now, well as far as putting in another one. I hope you understand what I am trying to say here. I am fighting a cold, tired and ready for my week-end. But oh holy cow, Christmas keeps getting closer and I keep getting farther behind. Ah well, hope this helps and good luck!
