Steering Column Repair: steering column, tilt wheel, scan tool

just replaced steering column on 2002 s-10 it had a non-tilt and was replaced with a tilt wheel.  truck will not start now.  immue

Hi Debra:

you have installed a column into a truck with antitheft on it.  It needs to be reprogrammed to relearn the passcode.  
Here's how to do it without a scan tool.  It may take up to takes 30 minutes and patience to do it right (3 – 10 minute cycles)

Re-Learn Procedure
Tools Required: None
1.   Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
2.   Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
3.   Observe the SECURITY telltale; it should be flashing.  If  it is not flashing, then you need  a scan tool to repair this.  If it is flashing…proceed.
4.   After approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn ON for 5 seconds and then OFF.
5.   Once to turns OFF, Turn the ignition cylinder to OFF, and wait 7-10 seconds .
Then:  Repeat steps 1 through 5, 2 more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes
6.   After the 3rd time you turn off the ignition, wait 7-10 seconds and then start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password and should remain running.
