Mitsubishi Repair: Jerky Acceleration on 2000 Eclipse & Service Engine Soon Light On, mitsubishi eclipse gt, obd ii scanner

Question
Thanks for the first response Linda

I managed to hook up an OBD-II scanner to the car and got
the following codes
P0335: Crankshaft position circuit malfunction
P0340: Camshaft Position A - Bank 1 Circuit malfunction

Any clues as to what the mechanic could have fouled up on ?

== Previous information ==
I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT (3.0 L, V6, manual transmission).

I got a late 60,000 mile service done recently (the odometer is
currently around 75000 miles). Among the services rendered at the
mechanic (who I used for the first time) were:

1. Flushing/replace power steering fluid
2. Flush/replace cooling system fluid
3. Tune Engine - replace spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter & scope
engine

In addition I got the following performed (since the brakes were very
squeeky)

- replace rear rotors
- new brakes installed

In addition, I got the battery replaced at a different mechanic.

Something that was recommended but I didn't get done was replacement of
serpentine belts (mechanics said that the cracks had just started to
appear).

Now, the car was working just fine before the above mentioned service
(except for squealing brakes)

4 days after the servicing of the car, I have felt that the car jerked
when I accelerated from 2nd,3rd and 4th gears (irrespective of speed). The jerks are more pronounced in 2nd gear.

The very next day the "service engine soon" light has turned on too - -what could be wrong. Could it be that the mechanic screwed something up?

Answer
Abhi: If your check engine light is on, the computer of your car is picking up that either your sensors are weak or out. Both of the codes you wrote about they are sensors you will have to have replaced. The belt being weak could have caused the one sensor to go out too. I would get that belt replaced. Other wise it could break on your out on the highway someplace. But one reason the car is jerking when you accelerate. It will only get worse so you better get them replaced. I don't understand if why they flushed your power steering fluid but maybe it looked bad to him. What about an oil change and stark plug wires? If he scoped the engine why did he not pick up on those sensors being bad? I don't think the mechanic could have screwed that up but yet it is pretty low miles for these things to be be going out. So you best take the car back to him. And be asking him what he did? What happen to your oil change and stark plug wires if he did a tune up on the car too. Just my thought here. When you have a car worked on at some shop a new one, you should always ask to see the old parts to make sure they really did do the job. Hope this helps and good luck!
