Mitsubishi Repair: 1996 Eclipse RS 2.0 Non-turbo Clutch Problem, clutch adjustment, turbo clutch

Question
Just bought our son this car. Drove it halfway home from California to Washington State. Began making minor spinning sort of sounds like glass grinding only while idoling. Took it to a shop in Oregon...were told that the throwout bearing was beginning to go out. Drove it the rest of the way home...no problems...ran fine on the road. Got home and ordered a clutch repair kit...replaced clutch and slave cylinder. Still makes the same noise (grinding glass)at certain points. There is a little bit of play between the slave cylinder and the throwout bearing arm. We are hoping that a clutch adjustment is all that is needed but not sure how to go about it. Is the only adjustment for the clutch inside the car on the clutch lever itself? Do you have any other ideas or suggestions about what the problem might be? We have spent a ton of money and time on this already...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Colleen,
I'll assume the clutch kit you got came with a new OEM throw-out bearing.  An adjustment to the slave cylinder may help.  What can also be a problem is the fulcrum the release fork (throw-out bearing arm) rests on and moves back and forth on.  Over time, the fulcrum and the arm can wear, making it more difficult to shift.  It's not an expensive part to replace, but it involves a lot of labor.  The adjustment will just be within the clutch pedal, master cylinder, and/or slave cylinder.  There shouldn't be any adjustment necessary to the release fork.
Good luck!
