Mitsubishi Repair: 97 mitsubishi eclipse spyder gs (2.4), mitsubishi eclipse spyder, fuel pressure regulator

Question
After my car has sat for a certain amount of time like for about an hour or 2 or overnight, the car will start right up but after I drive it and it can be just a few blocks, once i turn it off and try to start it again, it will start but it shuts right off and its like i have to wait a while for it to start again. i had a fuel filter put on it and it stopped for a day or two but it started right back doing what it was doing, what could this possibly be, no one seems to know exactly what that is.

Answer
Natasha,
There are a few probable causes for this issue, and most are fuel related.  You should have your mechanic check the following areas:
- Leaking fuel injector
- Bad fuel pump and/or check valve
- Bad fuel pressure regulator
- Dirty wiring

More than likely it's a pressure leak in the fuel system somewhere.  Any of the items listed above can cause that.  Other causes could be an ignition module or main EFI (eletric fuel injection) relay may be overheating, or possibly a bad ECM (car's computer) or Coolant Temp Sensor.
Good luck!
