Mitsubishi Repair: 2000 Mitsubishi Galant - trunk release, mitsubishi galant, 2000 mitsubishi galant

Question
I bought a used 2000 Galant for my 17 yo daughter.  It has been good except for 2 things that may be connected.  And again, maybe not.

The first thing that happened was not being able to get into the trunk with either the key or the trunk release inside the car.  This has been an inconvience and could be a real problem should she get a flat tire.

Soon after this happened, the car would go competely dead after 2 days of not driving.  If she drives or starts the car up everyday, we don't have this problem.

We did not get an owners manul with the car, so I don't know if its a fuse or something simple.

Any suggestions?

Answer
John:You need to go to a parts store and for around $20.00 you can buy a repair manual, get the one for your model and year. It will explain how to fix the trunk, you will most likely have to break the lock and then replace it with a different one. The car dead, do you mean the battery is dead or that the car will not start? I would check my battery, the cables, have the car coded(Got a AutoZone close? As they will code your car for free). If the car is dead as nothing, then something is pulling power off the battery. You have a short someplace, need to get a voltmeter and with that repair manual find that short. Don't think it is a fuse, because she must get it started somehow as if she dives it everyday; then it works well starts ok. So therefore she keeps the battery charged and so the car starts. So John, get that repair manual and it will walk you through things to check. I like the Haynes ones, as it has pictures and walks you through things good. If it was a fuse, she would not get it started once it went dead, till you replaced that fuse. Could be a sensor getting weak. But get the manual. Hope this helps and good luck!
