Car Stereos: rear speakers not working, rear speakers, best guess

Question
I just purchased a 99 expedition xlt.  Neither of the rear door speakers are putting out any sound.  I pulled off the panel and checked them and they are hooked up but still no sound.  I changed the radio from factory to after market but still no sound in the back.  Please help, is there a seperate fuse for the back speakers or what.  Thanks

Answer
Hi Demetrius,

Speaker wires aren't usually fused, so the most likely explanation is that your rear speakers are defective and need to be replaced.  It's uncommon for both speakers to fail, but not unheard of.  Your front speakers should be the same size, so if you want to make sure, you can try taking a speaker from a front door and connecting it to the plug in the rear.  This should tell you whether the audio signal is reaching the rear speaker plugs.  My best guess is that you just have a pair of bad speakers.

Hope this helps!
