Mitsubishi Repair: 95 Galant stalls at a red light...., cold morning, speed controller

Question
Hi Anthony, I saw this message board and felt the need to ask you a quesiton. NO other mechanic can diagnose my problem.

In the cold morning, I'll warm my 95 Galant for a good 10 minutes, then drive it. When I get to a red light or stop sign, it will stall.

I don't get a check engine light, I don't have a problem starting it up in the morning and I have no problem restarting after it stalls.

I spent $300 on a tune up because my mechanic said it MAY work. It didn't. So what could it be?!

Answer
John,
It sounds like this might be the Idle Speed Controller (ISC).  This component is responsible for maintaining a proper idle speed when your engine reaches normal operating temperatures.  So when you come to a stop sign or light after you've been driving, a faulty ISC can cause your engine to stall.  This component will not display a check engine light if it was bad.  Tell your mechanic to inspect the ISC.  If your mechanic doesn't know what the ISC is, find a new mechanic.
Good luck!
