Mitsubishi Repair: mitsubishi galant 2001 service negine soon, cylinder head gasket, head gasket problem

Question
I bought a mitsubishi galant 2001 v4, before buying it I did a 15 pt checking & found every thing is fine. I also took it to a mechanic to chk the spark plugs and wires as service engine soon was on. He just opend those plugs and cleared it n the light was gone. But after one week again it came up, & again I took it to Autozone, they scaned the code n PO302 causing misfire. They suggested me to chk the spark plugs again. I took it to another AAA certified mecanic, who checked the car & told me that for 2 cylinder head gasket is blown up. So, I need to cahnge it, & that guy give me an estimate of $1200. I am wondering, really how much it will cost for me to replace the gasket because I found gasket head cost max $150. I also found from internet that if head gasket is blown up, there should be lose of coolant n car should get heated but i dont have these sympotoms. Yesterday, my car was runing fine with service engine soon light, but today morning I found it is not starting. As soon as i try to strat, it starts, gets a jerk and stop. Please suggest me what could be the problem.

Answer
This sounds like a head gasket...The reason it cost so much, is because there is a lot of labor involved in changing head gasket out..you only lose coolant and oil if the head gasket is blown bad...your gasket could just be cracked. When you gasket is cracked, this could cause a missfire. But your problem with your car does sound like a head gasket problem!

Good Luck!
