Mitsubishi Repair: battery cable problem 2002 Spyder, advanced auto parts, auto parts stores

Question
I drove my Spyder all day yesterday and when I stopped at the pharmacy it wouldn't crank.  Tried to jump it but, it just kept turning over.  The cables were loose and I replaced them but, nothing.  Finally had to tow it home.  Now, I have to be out of town for a week and so it is sitting in the drive.  It has been totally reliable until now.  Suggestions?  Thanks., Elizabeth

Answer
Elizabeth,
You should have your battery and alternator checked by a mechanic.  If there was a poor ground to the battery, it could have drained the battery completely.  And many times when a battery is at it's end of life, they die without warning.  They may start your car up fine, and 5 minutes later, they will be completely dead without being able to be recharged.  You can even take your battery to most major auto parts stores (AutoZone, PepBoys, Advanced Auto Parts, etc.) and they can load test your battery for you to see if it can even hold a charge.  Normally, a battery should last 5-7 years, but under some circumstances (e.g. forgetting to turn off the lights, poor ground, letting it sit unused in the car for months at a time, etc.) will shorten it's life.

If replacing the battery does not help, have the car brought to a mechanic for further diagnosis.
Good luck!
