Question
i have a 92 mitsubishi diamante 3.0 litre automatic.i came home woke up and tryed to go out and my tranny wouldnt change gears. could an electrical problem cause my tcu to short out? help me get my gears back please. oh yeah my reverse lights an head lights dont work now either.

Answer
Deryck,
My guess would be that it is an eletrical problem.  Have the TCU pulled and inspected for internal damage.  Some capacitors that Mitsubsihi used in their early 90's vehicles were under-rated and had a tendency to leak over time.  The caustic liquid that came out of the capacitor would eventually ruin the circuit board of the computer and cause failures in various sysytem.  It's possble the problem may even be as simple as a loose eletrical harness.  I would recommend having a transmission shop or a dealership inspect this problem.  Either one should hopefully be able to diagnose the cause.
Good luck!
