Mitsubishi Repair: Brake light failure, montero sport, steering column

Question
I have a 2002 Montero sport and the brake light will not work after pressing on the brake. The fuses were checked and it was not blown. What could be the problem?

Answer
Arn,
You should check and replace the bulbs in the brake light that are not working.  If replacing the bulbs do not fix the problem, you can check under the steering column by the brake pedal.  Right near your brake pedal is a small eletrical connecter with 2 or 3 wires in it.  If that harness is not connected or any of those wires are broke, that can cause your problem.  If all else fails and you cannot find the problem yourself, take it to a mechanic to inspect.  The last thing you want to do is get rear ended because the driver behind you didn't notice you were braking.  Plus, it's illegal to drive with a non-functioning brake light.
Good luck!
