Mitsubishi Repair: from replacing fuse to engine stalling, blown fuse, montero sport

Question
i own a 99 montero sport LS automatic 2WD.  during a night drive i noticed my dash gauges light was no longer lighted and so figured my taillights were out too, which they were, and figured it was a blown fuse.  i replaced a 10a fuse in the fuse box in the engine compartment...corrected the dash and taillight issue but now when i press the brake my dash lights come on(a/c display lights too) and my digital clock dims...plus the engine will start and idle but will stall if i rev the engine...also noticed that the horn will not sound if the truck is off, only if on.  i can drive my truck with my foot on the brake/gas method so it won't stall. ALL lights/signals/switches working.  any ideas for me?

Answer
Ruben,
I've had a similar problem with similar symptoms that you're seeing.  It turned out to be a malfunctioning alternator.  Your alternator may have experienced a short or a blown diode, and that power surge could have blown that 10A fuse you replaced.  It may also effected your battery.  You should have your mechanic test your alternator and battery to see if they are working properly.  They'll probably find the problem somewhere in the charging system.
Good luck!
