Mitsubishi Repair: horn and leak, fluid leak, rubber boot

Question
I recently asked you a question about my '91 Mtsubishi Eclipse, non turbo, 1.8L, manual. My horn only works when you bang on it, which caused it to fail inspection. I was wondering if you could tell me how and where to fix this problem, I couldnt find anything about the horn in all my books. Also, I noticed where the shifter arm connected to the transmission itself, the rubber boot around it is leaking gear fluid could you tell me how to fix this as well.

Answer
Michael,
For your horn issue, you probably have a worn horn switch.  You can remove your horn pad and inspect the switch from there.  You should be able to find a screw or two holding your horn pad onto your steering wheel.

As for your gear fluid leak, you should remove any parts around it so you can get a good idea of what may be causing the leak.  If it's simply a bad seal or torn boot, replace it.  If the transmission housing is cracked, you may need to have it professionally repaired.  But if that was the case, and you're not loosing too much fluid, I would just let it be and fill your fluid as needed.  On a 15+ year old car, you probably don't want to put too much money into it.
Good luck!
