Mitsubishi Repair: No power to cigarette lighter 1998 Mitsu Eclipse GS, mitsu eclipse, amp fuses

Question
1998 Mitsubshi Eclipse Spider GS 2.4 automatic

Hi Mr. Falcone.  My question is, I have no power to my cigarette lighter area.  The light that is inside the base area turns on but I get no power from that unit.  The lighter won't light, car adapters wont work etc.

I havnt been able to locate a fuse for that area at all in the fuse box.  If there is a fuse for the cigarette lighter in this 98 eclipse gs, where is it?  And if there isnt, how can I fix this problem Im having?

At first I thought maybe a wire was disconnected, but if it is, I cant figure out where it is..

I bought a whole new replacement unit and I still had no power to it.  What can I do?

Answer
Haroon,
When you mentioned that you bought a replacement unit, does that include the lighter and the base that it goes into, or just the lighter itself?  If you just bought the lighter, it may be the base that's the problem.

The Eclipse Spyder is more a Chrysler than a Mitsubishi, but there is a fuse for the cigarette lighter.  In the fuse box under the steering column, on the left hand side, look at all the 15 amp fuses.  The cigarette lighter most likely shares a circuit with another component.  In older Eclipses, that fuse was #5, and shared the circuit with the power mirrors.  But it may be a good idea to pull ever fuse one at a time and visually inspect them.  Or better yet, check each fuse with a voltmeter.
Good luck!
