Mitsubishi Repair: Transmission, dodge colt, shift linkage

1993 Dodge Colt with Mitsubishi engine.  While going up a hill there was a loud pop!  My car will not go forward or backwards, I figure its a transmission problem. Can you tell me where to check first?

You may have a broken shift linkage.  If it's an automatic transmission, you can check the fluid level.  Unfortunately, there is nothing much you can do yourself if it's a transmission problem.  I would recommend looking around for transmission shops in your area.  Your average local mechanic usually doesn't have the specialty tools or skills that are required to work on most transmissions.  You can check your local yellow page for transmission shops, and you can call to ask for estimates.
