Mitsubishi Repair: Code 43, poor gas mileage, many different things

Question
1995 Eclipse N/T 2.0 M/T...Hey Anthony been having some problems with this car..I keep getting code 43, which is a misfire/poor tunning code. But the code is so vast..has many things it could be, car runs fine...but engine light still comes on! I have new spark plugs and wires and car idles very good. I noticed that the code 43 can be H02 sensor also!..any tips on figuring out what EXACTLY is making this light come on? Can I go to Auto zone and get a diagnoses...I know I can read my own codes, but doesnt the OBD reader ..read more specifics and zeros in on the componet which would be setting off engine light?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
Tony,
You are correct.  Code 43 is a very general code, and can mean many different things.  Being that your car is running fine, the problem could be a malfunctioning sensor or perhaps your H02 sensor.  If an O2 sensor goes bad, you may not immediately notice any performance difference, other than poor gas mileage.

But it is a good idea to have your OBD-II read from an AutoZone.  They may be able to give you a more specific code and information to help you pinpoint more precisely where the problem is.  And since it's free from AutoZone, you have nothing to loose.
Good luck!
