Answer
Ashley,
If the noise tends to get higher pitched the faster you go, say lowest when first start and highest by 20 MPH, that may indicate a problem with your alternator or perhaps your transmission.  Sometimes a transmission with a lack of fluid or excessively dirty fluid can make these whining noises.

Other possibilies can include a developing exhaust leak.  A small hole will make a whining noise, until it gets worse, which will make a very loud noise.  Your A/C compressor and power steering pump could also be contributors.  Even something as small as your fuel injectors can make a whining noise if they are clogged.  You should have this checked by a mechanic to help pinpoint where this problem is actually coming from.  It may be something as minor as an exhaust, or potentionally something that could leave you stranded on the road if left unattended.
Good luck!
