Mitsubishi Repair: 1996 Mitsubishi Mirage, emission control system, mitsubishi mirage

Question
I'm not to sure why but my 1996 Mitsubishi sucks up too much gas. Why do you think this could be? Also you have to floor the gas pedal to get up to speed and it goes really slow with the air on. I've been to mechanics to try to solve this problem and when they say its fixed, its really not. Please help me with my problem. Thank you, hope to hear back from you soon.

Answer
Lisa: Got an AutoZone close by? As I think you should have your car coded, you might have a sensor weak and so the computer is not reading things right. Could be you have a leak someplace and so are loosing fuel, in that the car is not burning it but rather loosing it. You should be a compression test done on your engine to make sure it is working as it should. Sounds like to me the engine is just not working right, because running the ac pulls it down. Ok, this is right from my repair manual..could be your fuel injection system out of adjustment or excessively worn, incorrect ignition timing, fuel filter clogged or impurities in the fuel system( if the fuel filter was clogged that might be where the fuel is leaking from), emission control system not functioning properly(sensors and computer runs with this), vaccum leaks, automatice trasaxle fluid level incorrect, the car could need a good tune up. Look Lisa, as a woman myself I learned that if you want to keep  mechanics honest, when you get your car worked on. Ask for the old parts back from the car. Because there are a lot of shops that cheat women. It is not fair but they do this because a lot females don't know the first things on why or how their cars run. So you should go out to a parts store and buy yourself a repair manual for your car. Read up on your car, then when you take the car to a shop, ask the mechanic what he thinks is wrong with your car, maybe have some questions ready for him. If he knows you know something about your car, he will be less likely to cheat you. I am not saying that is what happen this time around but sounds like you had some things done on the car but it is never fixed. Now either these guys are doing nothing to your car but charging you. Or not really fixing that is the problem and still charging you. You need to take the car back to the last shop, because you did pay them to fix your car and they did not do the job. So get that repair manual, read it and then go back. Tell them what is wrong with the car, tell them if they replace a part on the car, you want to see the old parts and make them show you where the part went. That keeps them from giving you a part off something else. I am sorry but in this day and time for a woman to get treated fairly in this car world, she had to put her foot down and show those guys who is paying here. So you need to take your car back to the last shop that fixed the car, and have them fix it right this time. As you have a right to have a good running car. I hope this helps and good luck! Linda
