I have a 3.0 that devolops a misfire as soon as the engine warms up. The vehicle runs fine til closed loop operation. There are no codes stored in the computer. I have tested several sensors (snap-on vantage)crank, cam, maf, tps and all test fine. I tested the ignition module according to procedure and it failed. I did replace it, but it wasn't the problem. I also compression checked the engine, all cylinders are strong 130 psi.I opened up the ECM and the TCM to check for bad caps and any damage. No problems found. I did resort to checking spark while the engine is running at operating temp by pulling each wire of the dist cap one at a time. It seems as if a few cylinders are not getting the correct spark (steady archs from the cap to the wire).

Any suggestions?

I am thinking of sending the computer out to be tested (auto comp supply/ecm to go) offers a service to check the ecm. They also do rebuilding.

Our knowledgeable staff will help you with better understanding the reason you may be experiencing computer problems or even help prove you don't have a computer problem at all. That's right, Automotive Computer Supply can test Most Mitsubishi units in the "Problem Zone" (manufactured years1989-1994) and tell you if it is the ECM or another possible related or unrelated electrical problem. This service is provided FREE!!! Just pay for the shipping to us and back.. We would be happy to help you SAVE MONEY!!

Bill,
I would recommend you first attempt the basic tune-up items before shipping off your ECU.  It's a good idea to replace your spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor every 3 years/36,000 miles.  It's also a good idea to have your timing checked and replace the timing belt if it's due.

But if replacing these regular maintenance items does not help, try out that ECM repair place. Perhaps they will find a problem with your ECM and fix it.
Good luck!

Complete tune up was done less than 3 months ago including the fuel filter. The plugs seem to be burning ok(not fuel or oil soaked) also no signs of antifreeze in the cylinders or deposits on the plugs.

Thanks

Answer
Bill,
Since you've done the complete tune-up, then I would just recommend having the timing checked.  And if that is set properly, it's a good idea to send out your ECM to have it inspected.  I have a web page constructed that can show the damage that leaking capacitors can do.  It also has more ECM repair references as well:  http://www.90gsx.com/eclipse/cap/caps.htm
Good luck!
