Mitsubishi Repair: 1994 Mitshubishi gallant stalls, excessive corrosion, drive belts

Question
Hi,
My 1994 mistubishi gallant auto tx drives a couple minutes, starts trembling, then stalls. If I wait say 5 mins, it starts, then drives a couple minutes, trembles again and stalls. The transmission was rebuild and I don't know if this behavior has anything to do with the transmission.
Please help,
Thanks, Whittaker

Answer
Whittaker,
This may be due to an air, fuel, ignition, or timing issue.  Your car may just need a tune-up.  Every 30,000 miles, items like spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, drive belts, air filter, and fuel filters should be replaced.  Make sure your battery and alternator are also tested.  Sometimes this problem can happen due to excessive corrosion on your battery terminals.  You should also have your timing checked, and your timing belts changed every 60,000 miles.

It can't hurt to have your transmission looked at just to be on the safe side.  If your the tune-up work does not help, and your transmission checks out fine, have your car's computer inspected.  Read this article for further information:

If your ECU is failing, it can cause rough idling, stalling and the inability to start.
Good luck!
