Mitsubishi Repair: Minor Oil Leak/AC, idle air controller, oil leak

Question
95 Eclipse 420a 5 speed. NON TURBO

Whats the best way to stop a minor oil leak?
Also car runs fine, but when I turn on AC car putters and rpms bounces at idle. Feels like it wants to die? And almost will if i dont give it gas. AC blows cold while driving but puts too much lag on my engine. Could this be the AC compresser going out? What other factors would play a role in loss of power only when AC is on? How can I improve the lag also? Spark plugs/wires?

Thanks Anthony

Answer
Tony,
Both your problems could be related to the same thing.  The bouncing idle is commonly referred to as idle surge.  Idle surge is typically caused due to a failing Idle Speed Control (ISC) motor; also referred to as the Idle Air Controller (IAC).  The ISC's job is to regulate the amount of air that enters the engine when the throttle body plate is closed (i.e. at idle).  Being that your AC runs off the power of the engine, if the engine is not receiving enough air, the AC can put enough strain on the engine to make it stall.

Though this problem does sound like an issue with your ISC, I would recommend replacing your spark plugs, plug wires, air filter, fuel filter, and have your belts inspected as well.  Those items should be replaced every 30,000 miles as regular maintenance.  It's also a good idea to have your alternator and battery tested.
Good luck!
