Mitsubishi Repair: mitsubishi galant, mitsubishi galant, automatic battery

Question
'96 Galant S  automatic.  Battery won't  recharge on the car and it is a brand new battery.  alternator was just replaced.  What could it be.
Also when the vehicle is put into gear it acts like it doesn't want to move.  It spits and sputters and kicks.  Thought it might be the fuel filter or pump, but both are in good working condition.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Earl,
The battery cable terminals should be checked to be sure there isn't any excess corrosion on them.  The alternator connections should be checked to be sure it's connected properly and that it is grounded properly.  Also have the alternator fuse checked to be sure it's hasn't blown.  It's also possible the new alternator or battery that was installed is faulty.  Have those items load tested to be sure.

A sticky transmission can be caused by a number of things, everything from restricted air flow, restricted fuel flow, lack of transmission fluid, poor spark from your plugs, misaligned shift cable linkage, poor engine timing, or even malfuction of the transmission itself.  It would be best to have a transmission shop inspect your car for a possible transmission problem.
Good luck!
