Mitsubishi Repair: 1999 mitsubishi montero sport car alarm, mitsubishi montero sport, mitsubishi montero

Question
My 1999 mitsubishi sport car alarm was reset when my battery died. When i got the battery going the alarm reset. I dont have the keyless entry system to disable the alarm. I dropped it in the toliet a year ago and it will not work. The alarm appears to be stock. Using the key will not disable the alarm. I have been told turning the key twice to unlock would disable it but no that did not work. Mitsubishi dealer said i have to bring it in to be programed. I think thats crap. Is there anthing i can do to avoid going to the dealer?

Answer
Dominic,
I know that on the older Mitsubishis there was a procedure to disable the alarm, but I do not know of a specific one for your Montero; if there is one.  You can ask around to local mechanics to see if they know of a way to disable it, but short of that, your only other option is the dealership.  These factory alarms are designed to help prevent your car from being stolen, but can also prevent the owner from driving it.  Sorry if I couldn't give you the answer you're looking for, but the dealership may be your only option.
Good luck!
