Mitsubishi Repair: valve timing and ignition timing, deg btdc, 4g63 mitsubishi

Question
am trying to fit a timing belt on a 4G63 mitsubishi galant engine-1997 model. is the crankshaft supposed to be at 10 deg BTDC or  at TDC?

Answer
Lawerance,
Before removing your timing belt, your engine should be set to TDC.  And you leave it at TDC when installing your belt.  After your timing belt is correctly installed and your engine is able to run, you can adjust your timing with a timing light.  10 deg BTDC should be the most advanced you should set your timing.  Factory spec lists advanced timing between 5 - 10 degrees.
Good luck!
