Mitsubishi Repair: Air conditioning drainage, drainage tube, leak water

Question
Hi,

I am hoping that there may be some similarities in how they drain the air conditioning condensation in your eclipse and my 2000 mirage. The drainage has become clogged and is spilling onto the driver side floorboard. Do you happen to know how your Mitsubishi drains air conditioning condensation and where the pipe is accessible?

Answer
Matt,
In most any car, the water that drains from your A/C system comes from your evaporator.  The evaporator is located next to your heater core (oddly enough), which is typically behind your glovebox on the passenger side of the car.

If you were able to get under your car, and look closely with a light, you would most likely see the drain tube for your evaporator in the general area I described.  It's not too uncommon for debris to clog a drainage passage and leak water into the car.  Sometimes insects can even make their way up that tube and block it up.

Most mechanics will tell you the only way to access the drainage tube is to remove the evaporator completely to thoroughly clear out any blockage.  This can be labor intensive because you may need to remove a good portion of your dashboard.  But you should definitely have this done to prevent any of the water from getting into your electrical components behind your dash, which could cause either you or your car damage.
Good luck!
