Mitsubishi Repair: Trouble code P0183, density correction, component failure

Question
My 2003 galant recently stated displaying the "service engine soon" light. I pulled out the codes at autozone, which read as P0183. This meant "Fuel Temperature Sensor A high input". What does this mean? Where is this sensor located?
How much would it cost to rectify it.

Answer
Santosh,
The Fuel Temperature Sensor is used by the ECU to monitor fuel system temperature. The signal of the fuel temperature sensor is used for the fuel density correction.  A defective sensor can significantly deteriorate emissions quality.

As far as your year of Galant is concerned, I can only guess where it's located.  I would assume it's attacted to the fuel pump.  It may actually be a part of the fuel pump assembly, and the entire fuel pump may need to be replaced if there actually is a sensor failure.  Many times the universal code readers they use at Auto Zone can pick up the incorrect or "best guessed" code.  My father brought his Maxima in to Auto Zone, and it pulled 3 codes.  I double checked with the onboard self-diagnostic procedure his car has, and two of the codes were correct from Auto Zone, but the third (and most important) was incorrect.

Since your car is so new, and their code reader may be several years old, it may not be receiving the correct code, though your problem most likely is an emissions related component failure.  Your only option to get a true diagnostic reading may have to be done by the dealership.  Unfortuntaely, it may cost around $80 just to read the codes off it.  You'd have the get their estimate for labor and parts cost as a result of the code reading.  Though if your car does not have too many miles on it, you're still covered under warranty, and this would be free from the dealership.
Good luck!
