Mitsubishi Repair: Anthony, I have a 92 Diamonte,..., computer diagnosis, transmission shops

Question
Anthony, I have a 92 Diamonte, great car, but the auto XMSN is locked in 2nd gear. (I have reverse and @nd gear only) 3 XMSN shops have said they cannot fix it because my on board computer will not communicate with their shop computer.  I think it is an electrical problem, or possibly a XMSN sensor. I am apprehensive in taking it to a dealer for obvious financial reasons.  What do you think?
I would appreciate any help you can offer.

Answer
Ray,
Unfortunately, the only option you probably have is to take your car to the dealership for a computer diagnosis.  You might have luck calling up other transmission shops and ask them if they have equipment to scan the computer on your car; this would save time in actually driving down there.  Because you have an older car, many of the transmission shops might not be able to check them.

Another option is to have the dealership diagnose your problem, then take that information as to what is wrong to another tranny shop.  Just because you have the dealership diagnose your problem, there is no reason why you have to have the dealership fix it.  But definitely get it diagnosed correctly the first time, and the dealership would be your best bet for that.
Good luck!
