Mitsubishi Repair: ABS light, electrical harnesses, montero sport

Question
Just had the engine replaced in 93 Montero Sport. Everything fine since picking truck up on 2/10/05. Today I went out to leave and the ABS light is on and the compass/thermometer is blank lit up but no data. I back out and when I apply the brake the compass/thermometer and the ABS light work properly. Push on the gas and ABS light goes on and stays on and the compass/thermometer goes blank again. Any thoughts? PLEASE!

Answer
Kristi,
There's may be a loose harness that is causing your ABS light to come on, and your compass to not work correctly.  When an engine is replaced, there are several electrical harnesses that need to be connected in order for all the interior lights and displays to function properly.  It would not be uncommon for a loose harness to wiggle its way free after the engine was installed.

You should return your car to the mechanic that performed the engine install and have them check all the harnesses again.  Odds are they will find a loose one, or perhaps a harness with a couple bent pins.
Good luck!
