Mitsubishi Repair: Transmission and shaking, mitsubishi galant, gear teeth

Question
At first my '95 Mitsubishi Galant kept reving up and down between 1000 and 1500 RPM's and the dealer ship could not figure it out, so I took it some where else.  They found broken pieces in the throttle body.  They put in a suplimentary part in the car to solve that problem, and changed the airflow censor thing.  Lately, I find the that the car shakes a lot. Someone told me it could be idling too low. And when I change gears the car will jerk sometimes (the car is an automatic),  when it is about to jerk when I am accelerating the rpm's raise and then it kind of like slam's into the next gear.  Then when its stuck down shifting then it will slowly decelerate and jerk a couple of times like it is try to down shift but keeps hit something, then finally decelates. Also the breaks squeak when I stop and I know I do not need you brakes because i just changed them before they started squeaking.  Can you please give me some advice about what to do? I am a college student and do not have a lot of money, so I hope you will not tell me I need a whole new transmission.

Sincerely,

John

P.S. - My car is a '95 Mitsubishi Galant automatic with I think a 2.4l

Answer
Hi John

I usually don't do other cars that aren't the model of the mirage but since ypu are in a bind i can make this a emption,The jerking and vibrating you are feeling is the gear teeth inside the transmission are wornout and need replacing and that will require the tranny be removed and be rebuilt and replace off of the gears to fix this problem. That will also screw with your rpm shifting up and down at times,I would have a tramsmission person over look it for you and give you a estimate i had a transmission on a truck i use to own that need rebuilding that costed me $700.00 instead of buying a new one which cost near 1,100-1,700 depending on the transmission.. Hope this helps
