Mitsubishi Repair: 96 Eclipse (GS) fog lights., maximum threshold, eclipse gs

Question
Several years ago a friend of mine gave me a shortcut to have my fog lights stay on without my headlights being on.  This worked for several years with no problems.  I had some minor repairs done and the service people disconnected this shortcut.  I can't remember the steps involving this.  Can you help me?  Thank you!

Answer
Eric,
My guess is that your friend simply spliced your fog light wires into your parking light/side marker lights.  That's the easiest way to do it.  I really can't give you detailed instructions because I really don't recommend doing that.  Like you mentioned, it should work without problems, but it causes a possible fire risk.  The fuse or relay can get pushed beyond it maximum threshold, and could cause them to blow and shoot sparks from your fuse box.  Also, the extra current that flows through the same wiring can cause the wiring to prematurely fail; also possibley causing burn-outs or short circuits.

But if your friend hooked it up once, you may find the connections he made previous and reconnect the fog lights up the way want them.  If you're not sure of the lighting schematic, pick yourself up a serivce manual, and that can help guide you.
Good luck!
