Mitsubishi Repair: Fuse Keeps Blowing out, safety precaution, grounding cable

Question
Okay, I have a '97 Mitshubishi Galant,2.4L, 16 Valve, Automatic. I resently got my motor replaced, and everytime I ckrank my car, I fires for a while then the IGN MOTEUR FUSE blows out and the car just cuts off. I can keep replaceing the fuse, but the same thing happens. Also, My car is haveing transmition problems, the Over Drive will not work and it jerks when I put in reverse. What could be the problem?

Answer
M.,
The ignition fuse typically blows for a couple reasons.  Either there is a short in the ignition system or a problem with the fuel pump.  If an alternator is installed and is not properly grounded or a short was created, the load of current would much large than the fuse can carry.  So, it blows.  The ignition fuse can also blow if your car's computer feels there's a problem with the fuel supply; typically brought on by a failing fuel pump.  It blews the fuse as a safety precaution.  The fuel pump should be checked to be sure it's operating properly.

But your fuse and transmission problems may all be tied in with the engine replacement that was performed.  I don't know the history of your car, so I can only guess that perhaps a harness or grounding cable may be loose or faulty.  There's a very possible chance of a fraid wire is causing a short circuit.  You'll definitely want a professional to carefully inspect the electrical system on your car to find exactly what is causing that fuse to blow, and possibly your overdrive failure.
Good luck!
