Mitsubishi Repair: new body for my eclipse, mitsubishi eclipse gsx, side fender

Question
Hi.  I have a 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX AWD 2.0 Manual with an upgraded turbo (I am not sure which turbo, it came with the car).  Recently I had a small accident involving a guard rail and the front passenger side fender of my car.  I have found a girl who has a 1992 eagle talon (not sure if it is tsi or whatever), she is willing to part to me, or to sell me the body.  The price of the body would only be $500.00 and that would include a newer and nicer set of rims.  The engine in the Talon as well as the trany is blown.  My question would be how hard, and is it possible to put my engine into the Talon (which i might also add is not AWD, manual, or turbo currently) as well as converting it to a manual with AWD.  The price of repair for this car was crazy.  The only difference in the body of the Talon and the Eclipse is the Talon does not have the "pop up headlights" otherwise, I would just take the fender and newer rims instead.  My goal is to completly convert this car into a Talon with AWD, turbo and manual transmission, I am just not sure that all the components will work.  You are the expert, let me know what you think.
Thanks for any help!
Broken Hearted Over Body Damage!

Answer
Tina,
If your only problem is a damaged fender on your 90 Eclipse, either get the fender repaired or buy a new fender and have it painted to your color.  If you have collision coverage on your insurance, I'm sure it would be paid for.

Both the Eclipse and Talon made between 90-91 had pop-up lights.  Models 92+ used the fixed headlights.  The fender off the '92 might fit your 90 Eclipse, but don't quote me.  Every 90-91 fender swap I used either a fender from another 90-91 Talon or Eclipse.  Because the headlight and side marker lights are different between 90 and 92, the fender may not bolt up the same even though it looks the same.

If the 92 Talon is not an AWD model, than most of the components from your 90 Eclipse will not fit in it.  You would have many more headaches trying to fit your turbo engine, manual AWD tranny, transfer case, etc. into that 92.  Plus, if that 92 is NOT an AWD model, then you'd need to add the driveshaft center and rear differentials, and the rear drive axles.  Plus, the suspension is also a different set up.

So my advise is to get your 90 Eclipse fixed.  It will cost you more trying to make it into a Talon.  A Talon and Eclipse of the same year are exactly the same, except for the name.  Plus, if that Talon was made after March of 92, that uses an different connection to the engine block and rear differential.  You do not want to get into the costs in trying to covert all that.  Get a new fender and have it painted, or get your current fender fixed.  Trust me, it will be cheaper than that Talon deal.  Many times you can find deals on eBay, or just search around the internet for replacement body parts.  From the dealership, a new fender would be between $180-$230.  The part number is MB549818.
Good luck!
