Mitsubishi Repair: hi i have a 95 mitsubishi..., mitsubishi mirage, oil cooler

Question
hi i have a 95 mitsubishi mirage (its practically the same setup as the first generation 2.0 eclipse) with automatic 4 speed tranny my question is how do i install a oil cooler? i just took off my old one when i took it off one of the lines was going directly to the oil cooler and the other line was going to the radiator and then to the oil cooler i wanted to know if i could just run both lines directly to the new oil cooler with out going through the radiator the new cooler has a inlet and a outlet just like the old one thanks

Answer
Allen,
You probably could bypass it and it would be ok, but the line going to the radiator does allow for additional cooling.  I had done a similar bypass with my powersteering pump to bypass additional cooling provided in front of the radiator.

So, it can be done, but I never recommend doing it.  The engineers designed that extra cooling for a reason.  Believe me, if Mitsubishi didn't think they needed the additional cooling, they would not have wasted the money in designing it that way.  But if you want to temporary bypass it for whatever reason, you should be fine.
Good luck!
