Mitsubishi Repair: clutch, clutch system, hydraulic clutch

Question
the other day i ran into aproblem with my truck.  i heard a small pop and my car was then hard to shift when i pushed the clutch pedal it went in some but not all the way you can still hear the transmission spinning. when the truck is turned off it shifts gears easier. but when engine is runing it is really hard. my friend said it could be something called a slave cylindar witch is a hydraulic cylinar. but i cant find it. i was wondering if you had any suggestions on what it could be. my truck is a 1996 mitsubishi pick-up 4 cylindar 2l manual shift

Answer
Hi Joseph

Your friend is half right on the issue of the slave cylinder,Also on your shifting problems it could be that your pilot throwout bearing is wornout and need replacing which will require to remove the transmission to fix and i recommend replacing that everytime you replace the clutch save double the work.A slave cylinder is a device in the hydraulic clutch system that is activated by hydraulic force, disengaging the clutch. replacing both of those will help your problem a whole lot..Goodluck
