Mitsubishi Repair: Cant keep it running, mitsubishi 3000gt, will most likely need

Question
1991 Mitsubishi 3000GT, 3.0, Manual.  When I got my car which was 2003, there wasn't a owners manual with the car.  About 2 weeks ago the car started haveing problems starting and now if I can get it to start sometimes it stalls out within a couple seconds or it may run in top preformance for an hour.  When it starts to stall there is a clicking sound that comes from the front of the console.  I found the little box where the clicking is coming from but I have no idea of what this box is, I do know if I have the car running and unplug this box it kills the car immediately.  Can you put some light on my situation PLEASE!!!!!!!  Contact me as soon as possible.  Thank you

Answer
Shirley,
That small box you heard the clicking coming from is most likely your car's computer.  When you unplug it while the car is running, it's like pulling out the car's brain.  The clicking is because the computer is resetting constantly, which indicates that it is failing.  Read this article for further information:

You will most likely need to replace your ECU.  It's an expensive part from the dealership (about $1100), but you can usually find used ECUs that have been repaired for a fraction of the dealer cost.
Good luck!
