Mitsubishi Repair: 91 Eclipse Tranny Linkage Adjust, gm syncromesh, junkyard parts

Question
Have a 91 eclipse 2.0L turbo (turbo was previously removed) and manual trans. Recently replaced tranny (w/junkyard parts)& slave cyl(new). Will only shift easily into 1, 3, 5th gears. 2nd, 4 and rev are hard to engage. I've bled the system. Any suggestions?

Answer
Javier,
Problems in 2nd/4th/reverse are usually a shifter or shifter cable problem.  Make sure the cable mount on the transmission is tight.  Make sure the cable itself is not about to "break".

If those check out, examine the shifter and cable ends for excess wear. Also examine the bushings used to mount the shifter to the chassis.

If you aare not using a top grade transmission fluid, I would highly recommend it.  Any full synthetic grade GL-4 fluid will help with rough shifts.  1G Eclipses are known to have notchy transmissions.  BG Syncroshift II, Redline Sythetic tranny fluid, or GM Syncromesh are all very good choices for tranny fluid.
Good luck!
