Mitsubishi Repair: TIMING MARKS, cam sprockets, dohc motor

Question
how would i set the timing marks on a 1991 mitsubishi eclipse gs 16 valve 2000 DoHc motor?  Thank you in advance!

Answer
Russell,
If you currently have the timing belt installed on your engine, and the engine is running fine, you can set your engine to top-dead-center (TDC) by facing the two notches on the cam sprockets towards each other.  Once those notches are inline, your engine will be at TDC, and you'll see where the timing marks are lined up with crank sprocket, oil pump sprocket, and balance shaft sprocket.

But if your engine is not running correctly, you need a service manual for instrucitons to get everything lined up on all the timing marks.  If you don't have a service manual, you can use this page a visual reference:

Good luck!
