Mitsubishi Repair: clicking, mitsubishi galant, noise intensity

Question
I have a 02 Mitsubishi Galant, 3.0L, GTZ, automatic.  When I turn my A.C. on with the temperature control dial on the highest setting I hear a clicking noise coming from the dashboard.  Do you have any clue what it may be and what to do to fix it?

Answer
Tino,
The clicking noise may be caused by an unbalanced fan blade or worn bearing.  A fan blade may be slightly scraping the part of the shroud that goes around it and causing the ticking noise.  Try to listen very closely if the ticking is still present when you lower the fan speed.  If the noise intesity goes down and the length between ticks also decrease, it is probably the fan hitting against something.  It may even be possible a small object somehow lodged itself into the vent system and the fan is hitting it.

If the fan speed does not make any difference in the noise intensity, and you only notice this when you turn the heat on, your problem could be a malfunctioning heater relay, which may need to be replaced.

If the noise keeps persisting and you fail to feel any heat coming from your vents, then take your car to a mechanic to have it inspected.
Good luck!
